AIDS Awareness camp report on 08.06.2015

           The AIDS awareness programme was conducted in Perambakkam village of Tiruvallur district on 08.06.2015. In this one day programme Mr. A. Vadivelan, Towards Youth Foundation NGO programme manager (Design), Mr. R.Megavarnan, NGO Regional Co-ordinator, Dr.S.Selvaraj, NSS Programme Officer and Dr.R.Rajaraja cholan, Assistant Professor and NSS volunteers participated.  
            Mr.R.Megavarnan discussed about the organizational set up of NGO, mode of spread of AIDS, symptoms observed, India status in AIDS and control measures. The four important ways of spread viz. blood donation, unpurified injection, unprotected intercourse and giving mother milk from affected persons were highlighted. The important symptoms are continuous fever, sweating, vomiting and weight loss. Control measures were also elaborately discussed. In his speech it was stressed that all pregnant women should take checkup once in three months. All AIDS affected persons should take treatment in government hospitals. Also he gave details about Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) and ELISA test for this disease control. He mentioned about the importance of greens and vegetables in AIDS control.  In world level India ranked as second and in India, Andhra Pradesh is in first position.
            Five groups of girls NSS volunteers and four groups of boys NSS volunteers interacted with community people. In this interaction, they collected details about family members, their occupation, living status of each family, village hygienic status, all diseases problems including AIDS and control measures etc. Later the feedback collected was discussed by NGO co-ordinator and NSS Programme officer.  From feedback NSS volunteers observed that around    50–60% people are having knowledge about AIDS and their control measures. Finally Dr.S.Selvaraj, NSS Programme officer proposed the vote of thanks.
